Biomarkers

Biomarkers are detectable substances in the body that indicate what is going on. For many diseases, among which several types of cancer, biomarkers have been discovered. With research into prostate or bowel disorders it is common to screen for respectively PSA in blood or hidden blood in stool (FOB). The presence of these substances knows many innocent causes (such as inflammation), but also several more serious causes (such as prostate and bowel cancer). Therefore, it is important to discuss this with your doctor in order to determine the cause. A positive test result with a PSA or FOB test is therefore not a reason for immediately concern, though, it is reason for alertness. The presence of these biomarkers does not usually result in immediate complaints. A home tests makes it possible to test for biomarkers at home. A possible presence may then sooner be discovered and, if necessary, can be treated.
