Infectious diseases An infectious disease is a disease caused by a transmittable pathogen, such as a virus, a bacteria, or a fungi. Infectious diseases are often contagious. The degree to which they can be transmitted differs per pathogen. The way the disease is transmitted can vary from saliva, body fluids to sperm or blood. To prevent an infection from making you (seriously) ill, or to be transmitted to others, it can be useful to do a home test. Fortunately, for several infectious diseases this can be done easily.
