Can I be sure that I am not infected with HIV if I test negative?

If you have performed the test as
1 described in the instructions for use,
2 there appears a clear control line next to the “C” ,
3 there is no line next to the “T” (like in the picture),

Then you have a negative test result. In this case the test did not detect any antibodies against HIV in your blood at the moment of testing. Like with tests you have performed with your doctor or in a laboratory, you do not have to do a retest in this case. You do have to take in account that you might be infected within the last three months. There is a chance that your body has not produced enough antibodies as a reaction to a possible infection less then three months ago. In that case the test would give a (false) negative test result.

Should you for what reason so ever doubt your negative test result, we advise you to do a retest three months (the window period) after your first test to take your doubts away. (In case of a needle accident (when you are pricked with a potentially infected needle), you should wait for six months before you do a retest)

Both results are negavtive.
